About Us
Small Space Jewellery is an intimate encounter of the contemporary kind, first established in 2000 by Robyn Wernicke, who has been working as a jeweller and designer for over 25 years.
Robyn holds an Honours Degree in Fine Art – Gold and Silver Smithing, completed at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and an apprenticeship qualification. She is one of the few people who has a foot simultaneously in both the world of art and trade.
In 2004 Robyn was invited to Shanghai China to develop and teach an extensive course covering “western design principles in contemporary jewellery”. She has lectured in jewellery design and manufacture at several places including RMIT.
Her career encompasses an impressive array of works entered in exhibitions both in Australia and overseas and has been acquired for several collections.
A commitment to broadening public education in contemporary jewellery and design is an on going project. Robyn has a passion for individuality, seeking out the unusual without compromise on workmanship.
Small Space specialises in all forms of repair work, remodelling of existing jewellery and hand making one off individual pieces for a discerning clientele that actively seeks out the hand made.
We work with a variety of materials including gold, platinum, silver and diamonds. Fossils and rare gemstones also, including many that are found in Australia. We use enamel, perspecs, buttons and some more unusual materials such as titanium, aluminium and glass. This makes for a collection that is vibrant with colour and design.
Along side our own work sits that of several other Australian jewellery designers, creating an eclectic mix in a display that is constantly changing.
Small Space Jewellery calls for more than a casual glance if you are to take in the treasures hidden throughout.
Customers are encouraged to try the pieces on and are given information about the making process, the materials and the designer.
We have gift vouchers available and a six-week lay-by.
